We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 6:00 am in the direction of Ollantaytambo (living Inca city), there we will make a brief stop to visit the city, then we go to the native community of Willoq located 14 km from Ollantaytambo
The Willoq and Patacancha villages are a very particular ethnic group according to some writers who maintain a direct line from the last Incas, which is corroborated by their same surnames as Sinchi, Pukha, Cusipaucar, Tupha and others.
The Vivencial Tourism in Willoq and Patacancha is near the town of Olltanytambo. This place is one of the most privileged places to know closely the Andean Tradition; the residents of Willoq and Patacancha meet the visitors as a way to integrate themselves to a society that respects them as equals, that is why it is not surprising that they are dispersed by the square, and the streets of the town of Ollatanytambo.
The inhabitants of these communities maintain their current culture. One of the specialties of these descendants of the Incas is their textiles, their clothing, as is often the case with a series of community enterprises, have colors that are very eye-catching.
WELCOME IN WILLOQ AND PATACANCHA
The villagers welcome the visitor with songs and dances. It is remarkable that some of them wear white clothes with long sleeves of the same color.
With respect to their dance, it is the wifala, which imitates the movement of the huallata (the Andean goose), and which at the same time means joy and the Inca nation. This culture introduces the tourist into a completely different world with a reality that goes beyond our imagination.
At the same time, the weavers are very well organized in a center of Textileria of which 260 craftswomen of other communities are part.
This tradition comes from generation to generation as the weavers learned from their mothers and in the same way, they instilled their daughters in this same trade.
The men play similar roles and a large part of them are porters on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and many of them complete their workdays in this way. These men are strong and very well fed thanks to the green coca leaf that makes their body structure resistant to the hard work involved in being a porter.
Every day of the week, the weavers' place is active, but you must visit it preferably on Saturdays, when they have prepared to receive the travelers, where they can share ideas and customs.
Patacancha is thirty minutes away from Willoq, there is also an association of weavers, women who on average only speak Quechua and like their neighbors, they weave wonders such as llicllas, chalinas, ponchos, bags, blankets, of a fineness that to the natural fiber (sheep or alpaca) can give the texture of a silk to all their textiles.
It is also very important to know that the materials used to give color and life to the fabrics are obtained from plants in the area that provide the precise colors for their crafts, their designs in each craft has a unique meaning in itself.
The approximate duration of the activity is 3 to 4 hours, and then we will have a typical lunch of the place and after a rest and more coexistence, we will return to Cusco.
